COURSE DESCRIPTION The course will be offered by Pediatric Dentistry Residents with the aim of contributing to the professional community innovative and updated information in the area of pediatric dentistry.  First year residents will discuss the following topics: The use of bioactive material Activa in special care dentistry.  Strategies for trauma   prevention in vulnerable populations and correlating parenting styles with child behavior and dental treatment.  Second year residents will give a comprehensive literature review of the etiology, prevalence, diagnosis and treatment of Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH), also relating the clinical picture of hypomeneralization of systemic origin affecting one or more first permanent molars (FPMs) that are associated frequently with affected incisors. COURSE OBJECTIVES
  • To familiarize with the definition of bioactive materials in dentistry and various available alternatives.
  • To learn detailed information of the bioactive material Activa and its applicability in special care dentistry.
  • To discuss scientific literature regarding parents of patients in pediatric dentistry.
  • To familiarize with cases that provide a diversity of parenting styles and the experience in the Pediatric Residency dental clinics.
  • Distinguish etiological associations with systemic conditions or environmental insults during the child’s 3 years that have been implicated with MIH.
  • To describe the diagnosis, prevalence, supposed etiological factors, and features of hypomineralized enamel in molar incisor hypomineralization.
  • To recognize and compare a sequential approach to management and treatment of MIH.
